About
the Journal

The Journal of Architecture publishes research that advances empirical knowledge and theoretical understanding of architecture and its relations.

The Editors encourage original submissions of work that advances empirical knowledge and theoretical understanding of architecture and its relations in view of global challenges and their local expressions. This may relate to the reality of the climate emergency, economic scarcity, emerging technologies, or societal upheavals and shifts, among other matters of concern.

In addition to advancing knowledge across all areas of academic research, including the humanities, social sciences and engineering, The Journal of Architecture is committed to progressing knowledge of relevance to contemporary and situated architectural practice.

The Journal of Architecture is published by Routledge, an imprint of Taylor & Francis, for the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). Since its launch in 1996, it has become widely recognised as one of the foremost peer-reviewed architecture journals internationally. It is published eight times a year, comprising both guest-edited special issues, as well as open issues. Read here about The Journal of Architecture’s current priorities.
